Is Your Job Keeping You From Your Art?
Here is my first zine in the Path of Awesomeness series, available for the first time ever as a PDF to download. I wrote this zine to help other creative types find a balance in their work/art lives. I believe it’s possible to earn a living and still come home and create beautiful things. In this zine I outline what has worked for me, and suggest you experiment for yourself. You and your art are worth it.

When I’m sitting in my couch, or on a bench in a park, I cannot fathom how any difficult activity would bring me joy. I believe this is due to the fact that I’m at a state of rest, which makes it difficult to imagine what it feels like when my heart is pumping any faster.
But once I get moving, either biking around or doing chores in the home, I feel great! And I’m always surprised at how hard it is to get myself motivated into action when it feels so good.
Doubt yourself, or more specifically, doubt your ability to predict what feels good, and instead experiment and try new things. Reserve your judgement. Make no assumptions. Live curiously.
Moving is hard work, and it feels like a burden when it’s your own stuff, but it feels great when you help a friend! Not only do you get a hefty workout, but you know how helpful you’re being because you’ve been in the same situation before.
You get to take a much needed moving break together, and you get to share good hard work too. Plus moving rarel requires much thinking so it can be a nice break for someone used to a knowledge-based job! Extra bonus, no computers! And when you’re done you’re done! Super awesome bonus of “moving karma” knowing you have buddies to help you move if you’ll ever need to.
A beautiful thing about being unemployed is the challenge of how to start your day. I’ve discovered that a morning walk of no great distance is just what I need!
Sometimes it’s quite hard to know how big the world is when you spend most of your time in your own home. A walk will provide the sights, smells and sounds needed to get a sense of perspective.
Thank goodness morning walks are free and refreshing, a boon to those of us with the time to enjoy them.
